KeepMoving Records makes its first foray into animation and a rejected score at that with The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
This adaptation of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King was a 2004 animated film based on the classic short story by E.T.A. Hoffmann. The music was originally designed to be an adaptation of the classic Tchaikovsky ballet score which was produced and adapted by composer Yuri Kasparov. The score was made lighter and more dramatically flexible, while other Tchaikovsky pieces were also seamlessly integrated into the score. Unfortunately when the movie was reconceptualized and new scenes were added, the music didn’t fit the movie anymore.
Kasparov had previously released this album on his own without discussing all the details of its composition. This CD contains the first-ever treatment of the album as a soundtrack, with the composer giving a track-by-track analysis of his working method and explaining how his pieces would have fit the original film. This is a truly unique release which can be recommended to all who love Christmas music, animation music, Tchaikovsky’s works or simply want an unorthodox rejected score in their stockings.
